The foundation of the experience is guided rest\, storytelling\, connecting with silence and community care. We will engage with text via slides\, sound\, daydreaming\, meditation\, rest and actual napping. Moments of resting our eyes\, storytelling\, community care and curiosity. A rest resistance. \nGoals: To listen and engage with the experience by laying down\, feet up\, soft and open. Eyes closed. In and out of consciousness. You can just be. An opportunity for us to hold space with each other for silence\, grief\, listening\, daydreaming and liberation. This is a low tech\, immersive and embodied experience. The beauty of theory into practice. If anyone drifts off into a nap or goes into a portal of daydreaming\, this is our goal. Not a lot of slides since there is so much content on our social media for deeper engagement. We are activating our bodies to rest\, to welcome silence and to resist grind culture. \nDuration: 45 mins of a guided rest\, silence and connection by Tricia Hersey\, The Nap Bishop. 15 minutes for questions\, answers and discoveries. \nImages from a Virtual Rest and Healing Session with Allied Media Conference Detroit 6/2020 \nThe Nap Ministry has facilitated virtual rest sessions with: Texas Christian University\, Ethel’s Club (NY)\, Wellcome Collection (London)\, University of Arizona and Google. \n \nAbout: The Nap Ministry was founded in 2016 by Tricia Hersey and is an organization that examines the liberating power of naps. We engage with the power of performance art\, site-specific installations\, and community organizing to install sacred and safe spaces for the community to rest together. We also facilitate immersive workshops\, lecture on our rest theories and curate performance art that examines rest as a radical tool for community healing. We believe rest is a form of resistance and name sleep deprivation as a racial and social justice issue. \nBio: Tricia Hersey is a Chicago native living in Atlanta with over 20 years of experience collaborating with communities as a performance artist\, theater maker\, theologian and community organizer. She is the founder of The Nap Ministry\, an organization that examines rest as a form of resistance by curating spaces for the community to rest via Collective Napping Experiences\, immersive workshops and performance art installations. Her research interests include black liberation theology\, womanism\, somatics\, and cultural trauma. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Public Health from Eastern Illinois University and a Master of Divinity from the Candler School of Theology at Emory University. Tricia’s work has been seen with Chicago Public Schools\, School of the Art Institute Chicago\, Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland\, The Atlantic\, United States Peace Corps\, Google Chicago and organizations nationwide and internationally.
